Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive manual therapy that has evolved from Osteopathy. It is sometimes known as “Listening Hands”. CST uses a light touch to evaluate and rebalance the body’s systems allowing for free movement of all fluids, tissues and joints.

THE CRANIOSACRAL SYSTEM

The CranioSacral System extends from the skull, face and mouth down to the sacrum and coccyx (tailbone). It consists of dura mater membrane, the cerebrospinal fluid contained within, the systems that regulate the fluid flow, the bones that attach to the membranes, and the joints and sutures that interconnect these bones.

What is the philosophy behind cst?

The CranioSacral System envelopes and protects the Central Nervous System which consists of the brain and spinal cord.  The CranioSacral System therefore has a significant influence on the Central Nervous System. The body and mind face tremendous stress on a daily basis, and sometimes unprocessed stress can result in tension in the body’s connective tissue and affect the CranioSacral system. This in turn affects the brain and spinal cord, and every other body system that comes into interaction with the Central Nervous System, resulting in dysfunction.

With a light touch, the CranioSacral Therapist uses their hands to evaluate the body for any restrictions along the entire CranioSacral System.  A soft touch technique is then used to free any restrictions in the connective tissues within the CranioSacral System. Once the restrictions are released the Central Nervous System’s ability to heal naturally is enhanced and healing begins.
